Felda United came from a goal down to defeat Pahang 3-2 at the Darul Makmur Stadium on Saturday.
Shukor Adan 76th minute winner takes the Fighters to top spot with seven points in the Malaysia Cup Group A while Pahang, who have six points, drop to second. In the other group match Johor Darul Takzim II defeated LionsXII 2-1 to sit third in the group with three points.
FA Cup finalists Pahang and Felda United were tied 1-1 at the break but Pahang rued the missed chances to wrap the game in the first half itself.
Yet, Felda held their own and looked first to find the back of the net after Edward Junior Wilson chested the ball down for Ahmad Syamim Yahya to take a shot, which was deflected for a corner.
Felda committed too many for the corner and were expose from a counterattack led by Nigerian Dickson Nwakaeme, who played the ball to right winger R. Gopinathan for an exquisite chip over Farizal Harun to open the scoring in the 17th minute.
However, the joy only last five minutes as Zah Rahan Krangar was left to push the ball into an unguarded goal for the equaliser.
The host came blazing in the second half and earned a penalty after Faizol Hussain was brought down by Hasnizaidi Jamian in the box for a penalty in the 48th minute. Conti stepped up to convert the spot kick.
However, Felda again came back into the match after Wilson dribbled past Saiful Nizam Miswan before putting the ball past Khairul Azhan Khalid in the 63rd minute. Shukor netted the winner after heading in an Indra Putra Mahayuddin freekick in the 76th minute.
The two teams meet again for the return fixture of the group stage at the Selayang Stadium on Tuesday.
Matias Conti had a golden opportunity to put the Elephants ahead again in the 25th minute but was unable to guide the ball despite being unmarked. A minute later, Azamuddin Akil hit the side netting.
Nwakaeme also had a glorious chance just barely five meters from goal but the ball ballooned.
