Hopes of retaining FA Cup shatters

Pahang will not retain the FA Cup after suffering a 3-1 loss to Kelantan in the semifinal second leg at the Sultan Mohammas IV Stadium.

The score saw the Red Warriors progress 3-2 on aggregate and meet LionsXII in the final next Saturday.

Azraai Khor’s masterstroke  substitution of import Iwuji Amamchi for Badhri Radzi in the 73rd minute turned the tie around for Kelantan after Pahang looked set to progress.

Kelantan drew level on aggregate as Pahang went a man down at halftime.

Wan Zaharulnizam put Kelantan back in the FA Cup tie after converting for Wan Zack Haikal’s cross in the 17th minute, reliving their Harimau Muda days.

Pahang’s task was only made harder after winger Azamuddin Akil was sent off for elbowing Wan Zack in the 33rd minute.

A counterattack for Pahang, initiated by keeper Khairul Azhan Khalid, saw Dickson Nwakaeme control the ball and lay off for an unmarked R. Gopinanthan to blast the equaliser of the night and put the visitors ahead on aggregate in the 58th minute.

However, two minutes after Amamchi was introduced, he found the back of the net from inside the box to give Kelantan hope.

The scores stood at 2-2 on aggregat with Pahang having the away goal advantage.

Amamchi sent Kota Baru into cheers after betting three defenders and Khairul Azhan in stoppage time to put Kelantan in the final.
