Defending champions Pahang are through to the FA Cup semifinals after a 4-2 aggregate win over second tier Penang.
The first leg two goal cushion proved vital as Zainal Abidin Hassan’s side drew 2-2 with the Panthers at the City Stadium in the second leg, setting a two-legged semifinal clash against Kelantan.
Pahang wasted no time to consolidate their first leg win in the first half.
Nigerian Dickson Nwakaeme started with all guns blazing and put the visitors ahead after just six minutes in George Town.
Five minutes later he doubled his personal tally to put Pahang four up (on aggregate) without any reply on from the Premier League side Penang.
Damien Stewart averted a Penang threat at the hour mark while his centreback partner Zesh Rehman almost increased the lead at the other end in the 33rd minute.
Penang refused to give up despite a four goal deficit.
The hosts opened their tally through Hilton Moreira in the 75th minute. He doubled his account in the 87th minute but it was a little too late as Pahang stayed on course to defend the Cup.
