Both teams played a scoreless first half, giving the home side the advantage on the away goals rule as the teams drew 1-1 in Larkin on May 5.
Pahang and JDT made several attempts to take the lead but their defences cancelled each other out. The visitors looked to be at the back foot in the opening third of the match but slowly looked settled towards the end of the half.
National winger Azamuddin Akil should have tested JDT custodian Izham Tarmizi Roslan with a cracker from the edge of the box after 12 minutes but instead he laid it for R. Gopinathan, who could not find his footing for a shot on target.
Two minutes later JDT’s Argentinean import Luciano Figueroa had a header goal-bound but Khairul Azhan Khalid had a firm grip on the ball.
Pahang continued to find openings with good moves forward involving Faozi Roslan, Gopinanthan, Azamuddin, and Matias Conti but JDT’s backline marshalled by Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak and Fadhli Shas stood firm.
Pahang centreback Zesh Rehman had a goal ruled for outside just before the first half stoppage time.
