The Darul Makmur Stadium has been a fortress for the Elephants in recent years but Pahang have not defeated the Red Giants there since a 1-0 Super League win in May 2011.
Coach Zainal Abidin Hassan hopes the clash of the two giants on Saturday will see Pahang prevail.
Despite Pahang’s back-to-back Malaysia Cup titles and the FA Cup last year, May 2011 was also the last time Pahang defeated Selangor in any competition.
“We have to change things around. Selangor often walk away with the points… I don’t want to see that happening again,” said coach Zainal Abidin Hassan.
“Both teams need to pick themselves up after losing in the opening round of matches. I won’t say it’s a crucial match but we (Pahang and Selangor) need to gets wins underway.
“I had to work on certain areas, especially defending and finishing, since our defeat to Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) two weeks ago. Fortunately, the team responded well and all look ready to play like we usually do.”
Zainal is no stranger to the teams, having played the best parts of his career for both states during the heydays.
Pahang are without injured Azamuddin Akil, D. Saarvindran and suspended Saiful Nizam Mizwan.
