Pahang pull through

Pahang qualified for the AFC Cup knockout round after securing second place in the group.

The Elephants endured some nervy moments in Philippines  but persevered to settle for a scoreless match with Global FC. The host would have qualified instead had they won.

Pahang face an away tie against Persipura Jayapura on May 26 in the round of 16. Two legged ties only start in the quarterfinals onwards.

Pahang and Global FC played a scoreless first half with the host looking more likely to find the back of the net.

Global, who must win to progress into the knockout rounds, ensured Pahang had a difficult time in finding  rhythm  as they pressed high up the field from start.

Mark Hartman had a couple of decent chances but could not find the opener while several of his teammates also made the Pahang defence work.

The hosts continued  their search for goal in the second half but the defence  and custodian Khairul Azhan Khalid did not disappoint Zainal Abidin Hassan.

Fauzi Roslan could have put Pahang ahead but  his attempt was twarted by goalkeeper Patrick Deyto.
