Defending champions Pahang booked their place in the last four after a 4-3 aggregate win over LionsXII.
The Elephants had to endure a nervous 90 minutes as LionsXII raced to 2-0 lead after the just 18 minutes. Fortunately, Pahang held on from there. Another goal for LionsXII would have ended Pahang’s Cup defence.
Pahang were in the risk of throwing away two of their three goal advantage to LionsXII in the first half.
Fired up after being shown the exit door from the M-League at the end of this campaign, LionsXII started firing all cylinders from the start with Faris Ramli’s header sailing above the bar after two minutes.
Christopher van Huizen’s shot from outside the penalty box sailed past Khairul Azhan Khalid in the 12th minute while three minutes later Matthew Davies put the ball at the back of his own net to give LionsXII a two lead.
Matias Conti almost pulled one back in the 48th minute but he could not convert Dickson Nwakaeme’s pass. Ten minutes later, Zesh Rehman saw a goal ruled offside.
R. Gopinathan squandered a one-on-on attempt in the 89th minute but was fortunate the score remained.
