The 5-0 Malaysia Cup second leg scoreline over Kedah comes as a shock to many.
But not to Pahang coach Zainal Abidin Hassan after guiding the Elephants to consecutive Malaysia Cup finals and the third time in as many attempt.
He insists that Pahang were always capable of finding the back of the net.
“Yes, its a big scoreline but I can’t really say I’m surprised,” said Zainal.
“We create many chances in all our games and it was only a matter of converting it. Against Kedah, most of our chances resulted in goals.
“The players were on a mission to turn the deficit around. I told them to make every chance count…. they did just that,” he added.
Kedah had won the first leg 3-1 in Alor Setar but a first half hattrick by Matias Conti and a double by R. Gopinathan ensured a 6-3 aggregate win for Pahang.
Pahang had gone 21 years without winning the Malaysia Cup until last season’s heroic. Now, they have a chance of winning it consecutively.
Pahang await the results of the other semifinal between Johor Darul Takzim and Felda United tonight (Saturday).
